Juan Carlos Ferrero has finally spoken out about his recent separation from Carlos Alcaraz, and his insights are sure to spark conversation. The former coach, aged 45, took the opportunity during a recent interview with Spanish media to clarify the circumstances surrounding their split, emphasizing that this decision was not something he had anticipated.
Ferrero expressed his feelings thoughtfully, revealing that the end of their professional collaboration was not something he envisioned at this point in time. However, fate had other plans, leading to their separation for what appears to be an indefinite period.
In a candid moment, Ferrero made an intriguing statement about Alcaraz's future. Despite the unexpected parting, he didn’t completely close the door on the possibility of coaching the young star again. He indicated that the issues that arose during their contract discussions were not based on financial disagreements, which suggests that reconciliation could be feasible if both sides are open-minded and willing to negotiate.

In his conversation with MARCA, Ferrero elaborated on what Alcaraz could have potentially done differently to persuade him to remain in his coaching role. "It appeared that everything was progressing well, but there were certain elements regarding the new contract that we couldn’t align on," he explained. "Carlos’ team prioritizes his best interests, while my focus is naturally on my own perspective."
Ferrero continued, noting, "We could have resolved our differences through dialogue, but that didn’t happen. I didn’t communicate directly with Alcaraz; his representatives had already informed him about the ongoing discussions."
Despite their split, Ferrero still expresses a genuine desire for Alcaraz’s success and appears optimistic about his future with new coach Samu Lopez. In discussing the reasons for bringing Lopez on board, he acknowledged the natural fatigue that can come from spending extensive time together while traveling, away from home.
"The constant travel and separation can take a toll. However, we supported one another throughout our time as a team," Ferrero stated. "One of the motivations for hiring Samuel was to alleviate that pressure by introducing fresh perspectives while maintaining the same objectives but through varied approaches to combat potential exhaustion."
As Alcaraz prepares to step into 2026, all eyes will be on Lopez to guide him through this new chapter, hopefully allowing him to continue his journey without being weighed down by the disappointment of this recent split.
Would you welcome Juan Carlos Ferrero back as Carlos Alcaraz’s coach if given the chance?
