Hull City Shields Faces with Another Injury Blow as Collyer Joins The List; McBurnie and Hughes Also Sidelined
But here’s where it gets controversial: a season already battered by injuries has just deepened the setback at the MKM Stadium, threatening to derail momentum just when the team needed consistency.
In a fresh update from the MKM Stadium, Hull City’s Toby Collyer is set to be unavailable for the next couple of weeks after a hamstring injury picked up during training. The issue ruled him out of Friday’s 4-0 FA Cup defeat to Chelsea. Collyer, who joined on loan from Manchester United in January, had only recently made his first appearance off the bench against Bristol City following a calf problem during the Christmas period. He was expected to feature against Chelsea, but the injury in training on Wednesday forced a change of plans.
Further investigations confirmed hamstring damage, meaning Collyer will miss several matches. This marks another cruel blow for a season already plagued by injuries, and it hands Sergej Jakirovic another hurdle to overcome.
Hull City head into a demanding spell, with seven games across 21 days as they resume Championship action on Saturday against QPR at the MKM Stadium. The absence of the United loanee will be felt, though there is hope Collyer might return for the month’s final game at Portsmouth.
Jakirovic is also hoping to welcome back defender Charlie Hughes for the Rangers fixture. Hughes sat out Friday’s cup clash as a precaution due to a groin issue that has troubled him in recent weeks, allowing him extra recovery time.
Leading scorer Oli McBurnie was another notable omission in front of the cameras, but the decision was purely to protect the forward given his congested schedule since Christmas following a calf injury. McBurnie’s pressure-filled spell has included substantial game time, and a return to the starting lineup is anticipated for the Rangers game.
On a brighter note, Cody Drameh has returned to fitness and contributed as a late substitute, coming on for captain Lewie Coyle 13 minutes from time—Drameh’s first appearance since late November.
Several players remain unavailable: Matt Crooks, Darko Gyabi, Mohamed Belloumi, and Eliot Matazo, with Crooks’s hamstring issue hoped to clear up early next month.
