A significant fire erupted at a well-known pub in Sydney's vibrant Surry Hills district, leading to a temporary suspension of light rail services in the area as emergency crews worked diligently to control the flames.
Earlier this afternoon, the Randwick and Kingsford light rail routes were halted between Central Station and Moore Park due to the fire incident at the Dove and Olive pub located on Devonshire Street. Fortunately, firefighters have successfully extinguished the blaze, and there have been no injuries reported, according to Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue NSW.
Dewberry mentioned, "We believe the fire originated in a storage area or a plant room. It has now been put out. Our firefighters are currently inspecting the premises to ensure there are no hidden hotspots that might reignite the fire."
In addition to battling the flames, fire crews are actively working to ventilate the building and remove harmful smoke that has accumulated. Dewberry also stated, "Traffic has been disrupted, and light rail services remain suspended in the vicinity. However, we anticipate resuming normal traffic flow and light rail operations as soon as possible."
At this moment, the cause of the fire and the full extent of any damage remain undetermined.
