Cleetus McFarland's NASCAR Truck Debut: A Spin Too Far at Daytona (2026)

A NASCAR Truck Series Debut Gone Wrong

In a thrilling yet unfortunate turn of events, Cleetus McFarland, or Garrett Mitchell as he's known off the track, experienced a premature exit from his highly anticipated NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut at Daytona. But here's where it gets controversial: was it just a simple mistake, or a sign of things to come?

After a promising start, running within the top ten, Mitchell's race took an abrupt turn at Turn 4. He lost control, and his No. 4 Chevrolet Silverado spun out, making contact with the inside wall. The impact was hard, but Mitchell emerged unscathed, radioing in to assure everyone he was okay.

"It was a hundred percent my fault," Mitchell admitted, taking full responsibility for the incident. He described the mistake as "terrible," and expressed his awe at the skill of the other drivers, running three-wide for so long. But this is the part most people miss: Mitchell's frustration at not getting the chance to learn and improve. He had a blast, but his race was cut short, leaving him with little to take away from the experience.

Mitchell's future in the Truck Series is uncertain. He plans to compete in the ARCA season-opener at Daytona on Saturday, but beyond that, his Truck Series plans are unclear. He acknowledges the need for more practice, having only completed a few laps in the truck before the race.

In an interview with Fox Sports 1, Mitchell reflects on the incident and his future. You can watch the full interview below.
