Channel Islands Pupils Perform Local Musicians' Christmas Song
A heartwarming initiative has brought the Channel Islands community together, with local musicians Adam Reece and Emily Fern creating a special Christmas song that has been performed and recorded by students from 18 schools across the islands. The song, titled 'Christmas Dream', was written to celebrate the islands' 'supportive community' and to bridge the gap between the often-rivalrous inter-island relationships.
The creative process began in Guernsey, where the musicians were in need of last-minute material for a show. Ms. Fern shared, 'We thought with the supportive community that the Channel Islands is, it would be nice to get everybody involved in a song that was made here.' Mr. Reece added, 'In uncertain times, it's a message about bringing people together and connecting with one another.'
The song's catchy melody and easy-to-learn lyrics quickly captured the hearts of the students. Tiago, a student at Hautlieu in Jersey, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, 'It's been a great experience getting everyone together, and bringing the Christmas spirit alive has been wonderful.' His classmate Ruby agreed, mentioning that the song's quick learning curve made it accessible to new students who joined weekly.
Delilah, another student, shared her enjoyment, stating, 'I've really enjoyed it. I think it's a great song and it's really helped me to get into the Christmas spirit.' Chloe, from Melrose Junior School in Guernsey, added, 'I think it's going to be quite nice to see all the schools included, and I think everyone will like it because it's a really nice song.'
The project's impact extended beyond the song itself, as students like George from Forest Primary School in Guernsey learned to express themselves through music. Mr. Reece and Ms. Fern's initiative not only brought the community together but also showcased the beauty of the Channel Islands and the power of music to unite people.
